Town of Quispamsis- Chief Building Inspector/Bylaw Enforcement Officer

The Chief Building Inspector/Bylaw Enforcement Officer reports to the Director of Engineering and Public Works and is responsible for ensuring that all buildings in the Town of Quispamsis are in compliance with all relevant Federal, Provincial, Local Codes and By-Laws. This position is responsible for enforcing municipal by-laws including animal control and providing public education and awareness programs to ensure the protection of residents, property and employees.

He/she also provides leadership and supervises staff involved with building construction and inspection, animal control and municipal bylaw enforcement.

This is a full time permanent employment opportunity with benefits and a salary that will commensurate with experience.

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:

· A graduate diploma in Engineering or Architectural Technology or degree in Civil Engineering
· Four years or more of direct experience in enforcement of the building code, municipal engineering, public works and subdivision inspection
· Eligibility for full membership with APEGNB and/or NBSCETT
· Construction field experience
· Computer experience using office related software and AutoCAD and GIS programs
· A valid Class 5 motor vehicle driver’s license and a clean driving record
· Clear police criminal check
· Courses towards or certification from the New Brunswick Building Official Association would be a definite asset
We are looking for individuals with the following skills and abilities:
· Thorough working knowledge of the National Building Code and applicable building regulations within N.B.
· Working knowledge of principle land use and development
· Familiar with technical on-site building inspections
· Interpreting blueprints and construction drawings
· Strong technical, analytical, multi-tasking and prioritizing
· Attention to detail, maintaining high standards of professionalism
· Able to work independently
· Demonstrated application for resolving technical and customer service issues
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Positive work ethic who wants to be part of a team
· Demonstrated ability for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
· Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
· Animal control experience an asset
